Revisiting the Poignant Themes of All Quiet on the Western Front

The British Academy Film Awards on Sunday praised the anti-German film “All Silence in the Western Front”. It also was awarded Best Picture. This will boost its chances of being selected for the Oscars. Equally impressive was the Irish tragedy “The Banshees of Inisheron” and the biopic about rock star “Elvis”, garnering four prizes apiece. In the case of “All Quiet”, Edd Berger received the Best Director award alongside additional awards such as Adapted Screenplay cinematography, best score Best Sound and Best Film Not in English. It was not expected that Austin Butler received a prize in addition.

BAFTAs is to bring attention to the amazing talent that Britain is able to provide in film and beyond. The BAFTAs focused attention on not only William, Kate, Helen Mirren, but also the lack of diversity among individuals chosen for lead roles in films. That’s why the whole sector should be more tolerant to recognizing people with different backgrounds. This way, we’ll be able to create an environment that is more inclusive and unifying.
